Smriti is Sanskrit, which be translated as rememberance. Trungram Gyaltrul Rinpoche gave more than one talk on this subject. Here's an exerpt of a teachings:
"因此你如何得到結果決定於你是如何體悟佛法的。你可以馬上得到結果也可以等到許多世之後再得結果。說到這兒帶出了「生」的問題- 過去世和未來世以及輪迴，同時也引出了愛與慈悲的問題。為什麼我們要對他人生起慈悲與菩提心呢？在生生世世的輪迴中，一共有四種生的型態：化生、卵生、濕生和胎生。當你經歷無數世的生死時，你曾有父母，每一世都有父母，他們均如這一世的父母般疼愛你。除非是化生或濕生，否則你都會有父母，所以說為什麼人人事實上都是相關聯的。唯一的問題是我們不記得了 - 我們沒有「憶念」(Smriti)的功夫。"
So our inability to see the truth has something to do with the inability to remember.
